Cast iron teapots are sturdy and durable items, but they require special care to prevent rust and preserve their appearance and functionality. So follow our guide to taking care of your teapot and ensuring its longevity.
Before first use
Before using your cast iron teapot for the first time, we recommend rinsing it with hot water to remove any dust from storage or transportation. Then carefully dry the inside and outside of the teapot with a soft cloth to prevent moisture build-up.
Daily use
For optimal use, we invite you to rinse the teapot with hot water before each use to warm the tank and help maintain the temperature of the tea for longer. Avoid sudden changes in temperature, prefer to pour boiling water into a pre-heated teapot with a rinse rather than pouring into a cold teapot. This will allow you to improve the use of your cast iron teapot.
Cleaning after use
Rinse your teapot after each use, as before use, prefer a rinse with hot water, do not use soap or detergent, they can alter the taste of the tea and damage the enamel coating. If tea residue persists, use a soft brush to remove it, do not use metal or abrasive brushes that could scratch the enamel. After rinsing your teapot, carefully dry the teapot inside and out with a soft cloth. Leave your teapot open and in the open air to ensure complete drying and avoid moisture build-up.
Regular maintenance
To prevent rust, never leave water or tea in the teapot after use, prolonged humidity is the main enemy of cast iron teapots. Store your teapot in a dry and well-ventilated place. If small rust spots appear, gently scrub them with a soft brush and rinse the teapot with hot water, then dry thoroughly. Make sure the enamel coating is intact, if it is damaged, rust will set in more easily.
Trick
Use your teapot with its infuser to prevent the tea leaves from directly touching the inside of the teapot, this will make cleaning easier. Our teapots are compatible with all stovetops, but to avoid sudden changes in temperature, start heating the water gently.
By following all of our tips, you can prevent rust, maintain the quality of the enamel and keep your VIGGO teapot in excellent condition for many years.
